Designed for sectors like LiB, semiconductors, and LCDs, it’s a future-ready solution driving digital transformation on the factory floor.

High-Speed Motion Controller Powers Smart Factories

Mitsubishi Electric’s new MELSEC MX Controller is a motion controller designed for high-speed, high-precision applications in the electronics and manufacturing industries. Engineered to meet the demands of modern factories, it combines sequence and motion control, OPC UA server integration, and full CC-Link IE TSN compatibility—all in a compact, high-performance unit.

The key features are:

  • Ideal for fast-growing industries: lithium-ion battery (LiB), semiconductor, and LCD manufacturing
  • Supports multi-axis control of up to 256 axes
  • Delivers high-speed control of 128 axes in just 1.2ms
  • Software-based architecture with multi-core MPU
  • Up to 10× motion performance boost over previous models

The controller delivers advanced motion control through synchronized, high-speed communication with three concurrent control cycles—2ms, 500µs, and 125µs—enabling precise tuning for each axis. This makes it ideal for demanding applications such as winders, coaters, and robotics. Engineering is streamlined with support for no-code programming using internationally recognised PLCopen-compliant Function Blocks and the MELSOFT GX Works3 development tool.

AI-driven features, such as program visualisation and real-time debugging, further reduce development time and costs. Cybersecurity is built into the design, with compliance to IEC62443-4-2 standards. It includes encrypted OPC UA communication, user authentication, role-based access control, and startup integrity checks to protect against cyber threats. Additionally, the controller is well-suited for digital transformation, supporting digital twin tools such as MELSOFT Gemini and MELSOFT Mirror for system simulation, accelerated commissioning, and proactive maintenance. Integrated logging and analysis capabilities enable quick identification of the root cause without disrupting production.

Designed for flexibility, the MELSEC MX Controller supports the reuse of existing MELSEC iQ-R/iQ-F assets and includes variants optimised for food packaging, EV, and electronics production. Future updates will enhance system integration, cybersecurity, and digital transformation capabilities, making it a future-proof solution for smart factories.
