The FSWX signal and spectrum analyzer brings features to RF testing. It offers multichannel analysis through synchronous input ports, each providing 4 GHz analysis bandwidth. Its internal multi-path architecture splits incoming signals into two independent paths, each with a separate local oscillator and ADC. The FSWX features an 8 GHz internal analysis bandwidth, low phase noise, a spurious-free dynamic range, and excellent residual EVM performance.
The instrument’s cross-correlation mode utilises digital algorithms to suppress internal noise and enhance the detection of signals and spurs. For triggering, the multi-path design allows frequency settings for each receive path, supporting IF or RF power triggers at distinct frequencies. The FSWX replaces YIG filters with broadband ADCs combined with filter banks that cover the operating frequency range. For narrowband applications, YIG filters can still be used. The system features measurement speed and analysis tools operating on a Linux-based platform.
These features offer advantages to users. The ability to analyze signals at different frequencies simplifies the testing of systems such as beamforming antenna arrays, automotive radars, airborne radars, and multi-standard communication systems. The multi-path architecture with cross-correlation removes measurement noise, allowing the detection of spurious signals and EVM measurements for mobile communication testing. Independent triggering enhances the capture and analysis of signal interactions.
The broadband ADCs and filter banks eliminate complications associated with YIG filters, simplifying setup and reducing measurement errors caused by signal images. Measurement speeds and adaptable analysis tools enable users to adjust to various testing scenarios quickly. The Linux-based operating system ensures operation in environments where long-term support and security are needed.
As a result, the FSWX enables engineers to handle RF test challenges with precision. It simplifies measurements, improves accuracy, reduces test setup time, and supports applications—from 5G and satellite communications to radar systems—making it a tool for RF testing needs.
Michael Fischlein, Vice President Spectrum & Network Analyzers, EMC & Antenna Test at Rohde & Schwarz, is thrilled to introduce the new FSWX: “Our team has truly re-imagined signal and spectrum analysis technology with our new FSWX. They have come up with an innovative architecture and design to empower our customers to tackle complex measurement scenarios in the evolving landscape of wireless communications and radar technology that were previously unattainable.”
